NEW LONDON, NH. - The Saint Joseph's College Monks (10-4, 2-1) defeated the Colby-Sawyer Chargers (2-12, 0-3) 95-61 in a GNAC men's basketball contest on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The first half consisted of close play until the Monks began to pull away at the 2:57 mark when they went on a seven point scoring run to bring the score to 41-29. The Monks finished the first half holding tight to the 12 point lead.
The Monks went on an early 11 point scoring run early in the second half to open things up. The Chargers got on the board at the 18:12 mark. Despite the Monks continued offensive pressure, the Chargers kept responding to the Monks advances, reducing the Monks' 38 point lead to 34 by the end of the half and holding the score to 95-61.
STATS OF THE GAME:
The Monks and Chargers scored 16 points each of off of turnovers while the Monks outscored the Chargers 52-32 in the paint. The Monks held the largest lead of the game at 38 and scored 33 bench points.
LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:
- John Paul Frazier (York, ME) led the Monks with 20 points and contributed three rebounds, one assist, and a steal
- Silvano Ismail (Portland, ME) notched 17 points, two rebounds, and one steal
- Wani Donato (Portland, ME) led the Monks in rebounds with eight, tallied 15 points, and four assists
- Julian Llopiz (Boston, MA) recorded 14 points, three rebounds, and two assists
LEADERS – Colby-Sawyer:
- Chaz Cullum led the Chargers with 14 points and seven rebounds while adding two assists and two steals
- Jr Allen Mutiganzi notched 12 points, five rebounds, and four assists
- Bryson Jenkins recorded nine points and three rebounds
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
Today's game marks the 12th contest between the Monks and the Chargers. With the victory, the Monks improve to 4-9 against Colby-Sawyer.
