Monks Defeat Rams 86-76

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — The Saint Joseph's College (7-4) women's basketball team earned a 86-76 victory over the Framingham State Rams (7-5) on Saturday afternoon at Logan Gymnasium. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks took a 7-2 lead just two minutes into the game, but the Rams responded with an 8-2 run, taking a 10-9 advantage with under five minutes remaining. The Monks answered with a 9-0 run, highlighted by a Logan Brown (Brunswick, ME) three-pointer, to claim an 18-10 lead with just under three minutes left in the first. The Rams narrowed the gap to four (21-17), but a late three from Madison Lebel (Hermon, ME) extended the Monks' lead to 24-17.

The Monks controlled the second quarter, accumulating a lead as large as 17 points before heading into halftime with a 49-34 advantage. The Rams chipped away in the third, cutting the deficit to 53-42 with 6:43 on the clock. However, the Monks reasserted control, extending their lead to 64-46 with just under three minutes left in the quarter and entering the fourth with a 67-54 edge.

In the final quarter, the Rams fought back, reducing the deficit to single digits (70-61) early in the quarter. The Monks kept working and brought the lead to 12 with six minutes remaining. Despite the Rams trimming the gap to seven on two occasions late in the game, the Monks held steady to secure the win.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Junior Grace Ramsdell (Wells, ME) led the Monks with seven rebounds, 18 points, three assists, and two steals
  • Graduate Student Angelica Hurley (Groveland, MA) recorded 18 points, five rebounds, three assists, and a steal
  • Junior Madison Lebel chipped in with 13 points, six rebounds, and one steal
  • Sophomore Abby Dube added 13 points, six rebounds, and five assists off the bench

LEADERS – Framingham State:

  • Michelle Moreno led Framingham with 17 points, four rebounds, two assists, and three steals 
  • Katherine Haselton scored 14 points with seven rebounds and two steals
  • Abigail Martin contributed 11 points
