CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College junior Kyle Bowlan (Pelham, N.H.) provided the highlight of the day with a hole-in-one on the par-3 5th hole during competition in the SMCC Shootout held at Purpoodock Club on Tuesday afternoon. Bowlan's ace came on the 201-yard test and marked the first of his golfing career.
Husson University claimed the team crown with a 303 (+19), four strokes better than runner-up SMCC (307, +23), while University of New England finished third (316, +32), University of Southern was fourth (318 (+34), Saint Joseph's placed fifth (336, +52), and UMaine-Farmington rounded out the group with a 379 (+95).
Husson's Ty Dickson claimed Medalist honors with a 72 (+1) card while SMCC's Will Farschon (73) and Husson's Juan Carlos Hernandez (74) recapped the top three individuals.
FOR THE MONKS:
- Freshman Jason Curran (North Reading, Mass.) paced the lineup with an 81 (+10). Curran went out in even-par 36, aided by a birdie at No. 8, before coming home in 45.
- Sophomore Kyle Bowlan (Pelham, N.H.) carded an 83 (+12), highlighted by his hole-in-one on the 5th. He posted a 40 on the front and 43 on the back.
- Sophomore AJ Davis (Turner, Maine) matched Bowlan with an 83 (+12), with his best stretch coming early, including a birdie on the par-3 4th hole.
- Senior James Gignac (Portland, Maine) signed for an 89 (+18), with his lone birdie falling on the par-4 8th.
- Sophomore Chase Ranger (Farmington, Maine) turned in a 95 (+24), highlighted by a birdie on the par-4 14th.
