STANDISH, Maine – Husson University (5-6) defeated Saint Joseph's College (8-6, 7-1 GNAC), 7-1, in a non-conference field hockey matchup at the SJC Athletics Complex on Wednesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Husson broke the ice late in the first quarter when Maddie Perkins found the back of the cage at the 14:55 mark. The Monks answered less than two minutes later, as Kienna Haley (Scarborough, Maine) buried the equalizer off a feed from Zoey Lailer (Limington, Maine) to make it 1-1.
The Eagles regained the lead with two goals in the second quarter, as senior Lauryn Brown (Orono, Maine) and senior Averi Baker (Farmingdale, Maine) scored to give Husson a 3-1 edge heading into the half.
In the second half, the visitors pulled away with four unanswered tallies. Junior Faith Tillotson (Saco, Maine) struck twice, while Brown and Baker each added their second goals of the day to seal the 7-1 result.
TEAM STATS:
Husson held the lead in shots (21-7), shots on goal (16-4), and penalty corners (10-4) in the winning effort.
THE KEEPERS:
Saint Joseph's junior Kimberley McLaughlin (Lewiston, Maine) faced heavy pressure throughout, making nine saves on 16 shots on goal. Husson freshman Ella Duchette (Brunswick, Maine) turned away three shots to earn the win.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
With the loss, Saint Joseph's slips to 18-23 all-time against Husson and has dropped three straight to the Eagles, who netted more goals tonight than in any previous meeting of the 41-game series.
