Monks Split GNAC Tri-Match on Senior Day

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (14-11, 9-1 GNAC) split a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tri-match on Mike McDevitt Court at the Harold Alfond Center on Saturday, dropping a 3–1 decision to Lasell University (17-3, 8-1 GNAC) in the afternoon (25-18, 13-25, 25-22, 25-17) before bouncing back with a 3–1 victory over Elms College (8-13, 1-8 GNAC) in the evening (25-21, 25-22, 19-25, 25-17).

SENIOR MOMENT:

Prior to the start of the tri-match, Saint Joseph's held a brief ceremony to honor the volleyball program's four seniors: Victoria Briones (El Paso, Texas), Heather Darby (Shrewsbury, Mass.), Regan Noonan (Standish, Maine), and Nadia Sixto (Chattanooga, Tenn.). The SJC volleyball Class of 2026 has helped the Monks post a 57-62 (.479) overall record, including a 36-17 (.679) mark in conference play, with three conference tournament appearances during their time on the court.

After dropping the opening set, the Monks bounced back with an impressive second-frame performance, hitting .429 as a team – posting 16 kills while limiting Lasell to just six strikes in the 25-13 victory. The pivotal third set featured four ties and two lead changes, but the visitors held on late before sealing the match with a strong finish in the fourth.

The Monks built early momentum with back-to-back – but close - wins in the opening sets, fending off late rallies from the Blazers in both frames. Elms stayed alive in the third with its best offensive performance of the afternoon, but Saint Joseph's reasserted control in the fourth, hitting .256 as a team to secure the victory.
