Monks Topple Falcons, 10-2

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Saint Joseph's College (7-4, 6-1 GNAC) routed Albertus Magnus College (0-10, 0-6 GNAC), 10-2, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) field hockey action on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Monks jumped out early with tallies from Alex Graf (Topsham, Maine) and Maya Waryas (Bellows Falls, Vt.) before the Falcons responded through Alexis D'Angelo. Saint Joseph's took control from there as Waryas rattled off three more goals in the opening half.

Senior Kienna Haley (Scarborough, Maine) opened the second stanza with back-to-back strikes—first on a penalty stroke and then off a feed from Katie Yeaton (Farmington, Maine)—before Ava Markham (Belfast, Maine) converted a penalty shot to make it 8-1. After D'Angelo added her second of the day, the Monks closed strong as Zoey Lailer (Limington, Maine) and Waryas scored 70 seconds apart to secure the 10-2 victory.

TEAM STATS:
Saint Joseph's dominated the box score with a 30-4 shots advantage, including 28-4 in shots on goal, while holding a commanding 25-2 edge in penalty corners.

THE KEEPERS:
SJC sophomore Gabrielle Wright (Hartford, Maine) tallied two saves in the win. Falcons goalie Ella Welton kept busy, finishing with 15 stops.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
The Monks improve to 6-0 all-time versus Albertus Magnus.
