Monks Cruise Past Sharks in GNAC Quarterfinal, 5-0

STANDISH, Maine – #2 Saint Joseph's College (12-7, 9-1 GNAC) rolled to a 5–0 victory over #7 Simmons University (5-12, 5-5 GNAC) in a 2025 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Field Hockey Tournament Quarterfinal on a brisk and breezy Saturday afternoon at the SJC Athletics Complex.

PLAYOFF IMPLICATIONS:

With the win, Saint Joseph's advances to the semifinal round of the GNAC Tournament and will host #3 Colby-Sawyer College on Wednesday at 6:00 PM. Colby-Sawyer toppled #6 University of Saint Joseph, 6-0, in other quarterfinal action earlier today.

For Simmons, the loss signals the end of the 2025 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

After a scoreless first half, the Monks erupted for three goals during a five-minute window in the third quarter to take control. Senior Kienna Haley (Scarborough, Maine) opened the scoring at the 35:38 mark off assists from Ava Markham (Belfast, Maine) and Maya Waryas (Bellows Falls, Vt.), then doubled the advantage less than two minutes later with another finish set up by Markham.

Moments later, Waryas extended the lead to 3–0, returning the favor with a goal assisted by Haley. Saint Joseph's kept the momentum rolling by netting a pair of tallies in less than 90 seconds in the fourth, as freshman Myia SeeHusen (Corinna, Maine) connected on a pass from Waryas at 53:10, and Markham capped the scoring just over a minute later with her third point of the day.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the advantage in shots (18-3), shots on goal (15-1), and penalty corners (3-2) in the victory.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC senior goalie Kimberley McLaughlin (Lewiston, Maine) turned away the lone shot she faced to earn her second shutout of the season. Simmons junior Haley Bright (Norfolk, Mass.) made 10 saves in a strong effort for the Sharks.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

Saint Joseph's is now 23-12 in the history of the series with Simmons University. The Monks' 5–0 win marks their largest postseason margin since 2019 (5-0 vs Regis, Nov. 6, 2019).
