STANDISH, Maine-The Saint Joseph's College Monks (0-1) took on the University of New England Nor'Easters (2-0) for their first regular season match of the year on Thursday evening in Standish.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The first quarter remained even as the Monks matched the Nor'Easters 2-2. Just 49 seconds into the game, Senior Midfielder,
Will Levesque (Marlow, N.H.) gave the Monks a 1-0 lead. UNE's Shea Fogarty replied quickly making it a 1-1 game. At 9:21 Preston Briggs gave UNE the one goal lead. With just 1:07 remaining in the first quarter, Monks Sophomore Attacker,
Joseph Kiedaisch (Westminster, Massachusetts) tied the game at 2 a piece.Â
UNE's Shea Fogarty opened the second quarter with another goal at 12:41. Just 6 minutes later, Monks Sophomore Attacker,
Brandon Cavicchi (Kingston, Massachusetts) tied the game again at 3 a piece. 56 seconds later UNE takes the lead on another Preston Briggs goal.Â
Shea Fogarty started the second half strong, scoring his 3rd goal just 37 seconds in. 7 minutes later, Preston Briggs extends the Nor'Easters lead to 6-3. Stephen Fogarty also added to the scoring for UNE to make it 7-3 with 3:55 remaining in the quarter. Monks Sophomore Midfielder,
Zander Kirk (Bath, Maine) responded 11 seconds later to cut the deficit to 7-4.Â
Brandon Cavicchi notched his second goal of the evening just a minute and a half into the 4th quarter to make it a 7-5 game.
Will Levesque also added 2 goals to his total with 9:25 remaining in the game. UNE's Preston Briggs recorded his fourth goal of the match with 2:23 left to go. The Nor'Easters ended with the 8-6 win over the Monks.Â
