Monks Stay Perfect with 11-4 Win Over Mt. St. Mary

DAVENPORT, FL-The Saint Joseph's baseball team continued its strong start to the season with an 11-4 victory over Mt. St. Mary (N.Y.) on Tuesday afternoon on their spring break trip. With the win, the Monks improve to 5-0, while the Knights drop to 4-5.

Saint Joseph's bats came alive with 14 hits, including six doubles and a home run. Pitcher Nate Leavitt (Alton, NH) earned his first win of the year, throwing five solid innings. The Monks blew the game open with a six-run fifth inning, putting the Knights in too deep of a hole to climb out of.

The scoring started in the bottom of the first when Michael Wearne (Ellington, CT) doubled and came around to score on an RBI single from Nic Frink (Scarborough, ME). After a quiet second, the Monks put up four runs in the third, with Dawson Gundlah (York, ME) and Ethan Belvin (Claremont, NH) each delivering RBI doubles to make it 5-0.

The Knights got on the board in the fourth with a solo home run, but Saint Joseph's responded immediately with a dominant six-run fifth. Ethan Belvin crushed a three-run homer, and Michael Wearne added a two-run single, stretching the lead to 11-3.

Mt. St. Mary tacked on a run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly, but the Monks' bullpen took care of business, keeping the Knights off the scoreboard for the final three innings.

Michael Wearne led the charge offensively, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Ethan Belvin also had a big day, finishing 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, and four RBIs.

Knights starter Pisseri took the loss, allowing 11 runs on 10 hits over five innings. Despite collecting seven hits, Mt. St. Mary couldn't recover from Saint Joseph's early offensive explosion.
