Siebert’s Five-Goal Night Powers Monks Past Rivier on Senior Night

STANDISH, Maine — Saint Joseph's College women's lacrosse made the most of Senior Night on Friday, taking down Rivier University (7-5, 6-3)  9-4 at the SJC Athletics Complex. The win marks the Monks' 9th win of the season and improves their GNAC record to 7-1.

Before the opening whistle, the program honored its senior class — Mackenzie Siebert (Naples, ME), defender Shauna Clark (Oakland, ME), goalkeeper Morgan Wright (Chelmsford, MA), and team manager Jenna Shutt — for their impact both on and off the field.

Mackenzie Siebert stole the show in one of her final home games, notching five goals to lead all scorers. She wasted no time getting started, opening the scoring just over five minutes into the game. Siebert added two more in the second quarter and closed out her night with another pair in the third.

Clark made her presence felt all over the field, chipping in a goal and an assist while grabbing two draw controls and disrupting Rivier's offense with multiple key turnovers. Wright had a strong outing in goal, turning away nine shots and allowing just four goals in a full 60-minute performance.

Saint Joseph's led 1-0 after the first quarter and built a 5-3 cushion by halftime. The Monks locked it down from there, outscoring the Raiders 4-1 in the second half and putting the game out of reach.

Junior Celia Melanson (Waterford, ME) added a goal and two assists, while Sophia Burton (Westtown, NY) and Kiley Webber (Durham, ME) each finished with a goal and an assist of their own. The Monks' offense was balanced, and their defense made life tough for Rivier, forcing 29 turnovers and holding them to just 19 shots.

SJC also edged the Raiders in ground balls, 36-32, with junior Elle Hall (Casco, ME) leading the way with five. The Monks went 2-for-12 on free-position shots and completed 30 of their 37 clear attempts.

For Rivier, Sofia Cebrero scored twice, while Sarah Lachance and Cassie Hemmerdinger each had a goal and an assist in the loss.
