NEW HAVEN, CT-The Saint Joseph's College men's lacrosse team delivered a dominant performance on Friday afternoon, cruising past Albertus Magnus 16-3 at Celentano Field.
The Monks (6-8, 4-4 GNAC) came out firing, jumping out to a 6-0 lead before the Falcons (5-9, 2-6) could get on the board. Saint Joseph's controlled nearly every aspect of the game, outshooting Albertus 51-14 and forcing 37 turnovers in a one-sided affair.
Nic Michaud (Wales, ME), Calvin Heline (Amesbury, MA), and Noah Schaeffer (Gray, ME) each recorded hat tricks to lead the scoring effort. Tiger Hopkins (Leeds, ME) chipped in with a goal and dished out a team-high three assists, tying Schaeffer with four points on the day.
Saint Joe's piled it on early, building a 14-2 lead by halftime with six goals in the first quarter and eight more in the second. The third quarter went scoreless for both teams, but the Monks added two more in the fourth to close out the win.
Liam Greene (Mansfield, MA) picked up the win in net, playing just over 38 minutes and making one save. Jake Dernier handled the final 21 minutes and also notched a save.
Albertus Magnus was led by Cooper Strecker with two goals, while DaKari Coleman added the Falcons' third. Despite the loss, Nick Duryea turned away 21 shots in goal for the home team.
Saint Joseph's owned the possession battle, winning 42 ground balls to Albertus' 29 and narrowly edging the Falcons in face-offs, 12-11. The Monks were also sharp in transition, converting 16 of 18 clear attempts compared to Albertus' 15-for-26.
