Saint Joseph’s Falls to Colby-Sawyer in Hard Fought Overtime Battle, 11-10

STANDISH, ME - In a back-and-forth battle that extended to a fifth overtime period, Colby-Sawyer (6-4, 3-3) secured a hard-fought 11-10 victory over Saint Joseph's (6-4, 4-1).

Saint Joseph's took a 3-2 first-quarter lead to open the game, but Colby-Sawyer responded with a 2-0 second quarter to go ahead 4-3 at halftime. After Colby-Sawyer extended their advantage with a 3-2 third quarter, Saint Joseph's mounted a furious comeback with a 5-3 fourth quarter to tie the game at 10-10. After four scoreless overtime periods, Ponzini's clutch goal in the broke the deadlock.

In the loss, Mackenzie Siebert (Naples. ME) registered a hat trick with three goals, while Taylor Dumond (Minisink, N.Y.) and Shauna Clark (Oakland, ME) each scored twice. Dinah Wadleigh (Augusta, ME), Ella Highbarger (Kennebunk, ME), and Sophia Burton (Westtown, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring with one goal each. Wadleigh and Celia Melanson (Waterford, ME) tallied two assists apiece. Saint Joseph's split goaltending responsibilities between Morgan Wright (Chelmsford, MA) and Julia Price (Newbury, MA). Wright started for the Monks and played the first 30:00, allowing 4 goals while making 6 saves. Price took over for the final 52:59, surrendering 7 goals with 6 saves in the loss.

Heather Hanson led Colby-Sawyer tallying three goals and four assists. Cecilia Ponzini (2 goals), Soph Kuhlthau (2), and Andrea Smith (2) each contributed multiple goals, while Madeline Knight and Lauren Vignola added one apiece. AJ Paton played the complete game (82:59), allowing 10 goals while making 9 saves to earn the victory.

Both teams generated plenty of offensive opportunities, with Saint Joseph's holding a slight 37-34 advantage in total shots and 15-10 edge in free-position shots. Colby-Sawyer converted 16 shots on goal compared to 13 for Saint Joseph's.

Colby-Sawyer held advantages in ground balls (33-29) and clears (30-17), while Saint Joseph's won the turnover battle (35-40) and draw controls (12-16).
