STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's College of Maine is excited to announce the addition of Ryan Martin to the Women's Basketball coaching staff as Player Development and Shooting Coach. Martin, a highly accomplished player and trainer, brings unique expertise in skill development and shooting performance that will immediately enhance the Monks' program.
A standout athlete in his own right, Martin has built an impressive résumé that includes not only success as a player, trainer and coach but also recognition on the world stage through his three Guinness world records in shooting. His achievements reflect both an elite skill set and an unmatched work ethic, qualities he now channels into coaching and player development.
"We are thrilled to welcome Ryan to Saint Joseph's," said Head Coach Chris Woodside. "He brings a rare combination of personal playing success, technical knowledge, and a passion for helping players unlock their full potential. His focus on skill development, shooting mechanics, and building confidence through repetition will be a tremendous asset to our program."
Martin expressed his excitement about joining the Monks. "I'm really excited about the opportunity to join the St. Joe's program," he said. "From my conversations with Coach Woodside, it's clear our philosophies are closely aligned, which makes me confident that I can contribute effectively to the team's development. This role, especially focusing on player development and shooting, is something that not many college programs prioritize, so I truly appreciate Coach Woodside's belief in me and the value I can bring."
Known for his innovative training methods, Martin plans to instill a culture of ownership and growth among the Monks' players. "I believe I'll bring a strong focus on helping players take ownership of their development by teaching them how to train effectively on their own and reach their maximum potential," he explained. "Workouts will be intense, fun, and competitive, with an emphasis on progress tracking so players can actually see their improvement. I'll also integrate video analysis to help with precision shooting adjustments, which I believe can take this group to another level."
Coach Woodside echoed this vision. "What excites me most about Ryan's addition is his ability to blend skill development with empowerment," Woodside said. "He's not just building better shooters, he's building more confident, resilient athletes who understand how to take ownership of their growth."
With Martin on board, the Monks' staff strengthens its commitment to player development, ensuring Saint Joseph's continues to be one of the region's premier women's basketball programs.
