STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (1-2-0, 1-0-0 GNAC) scored a pair of second-half goals to defeat Colby-Sawyer College (2-2-1, 1-1-0 GNAC), 2-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer action at the SJC Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
After a scoreless first half with few legitimate scoring chances, the Monks struck just 55 seconds into the second stanza when senior Sydney Gallop (Hermon, Maine) netted her second goal of the year. Senior Lelia Weir (Bar Harbor, Maine) delivered a corner kick from the right side, placing a perfect ball into the box, where Gallop rose above the defense and headed it past Colby-Sawyer senior goalkeeper Gabby Calidonio (Flagler Beach, Fla.) to give the hosts a 1-0 edge.
Saint Joseph's controlled the pace for the remainder of the contest and doubled the cushion at the 66:17 mark when sophomore Abbey Laney (Standish, Maine) tallied her first collegiate goal. Weir was credited with her second assist of the afternoon after threading a slick lead pass into the box for Laney.

The Monks held the advantage in shots (12-6), shots on goal (7-2), and corner kicks (4-0).
