Perron Tally Lifts Monks Past Sharks, 1-0

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (2-2-0, 2-0-0 GNAC) remained perfect in conference play with a 1-0 shutout victory over Simmons University (2-3-1, 0-1-1 GNAC) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer match at the SJC Athletics Complex on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks broke through in the 19th minute when senior forward Eliese Perron (South Portland, Maine) netted her first goal of the season off a setup from senior midfielder Lelia Weir (Bar Harbor, Maine). Perron's finish stood as the lone tally, as the SJC defense held the Sharks without a shot on target for the full 90 minutes.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (8-1), shots on goal (7-0), and corner kicks (5-1) in the victory.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC sophomore Ashlyn Guerette (Merrimack, N.H.) was untested while posting her second shutout of the season while Simmons sophomore Lauren Sanchez (Haverhill, Mass.) made six stops – including several of the highlight-reel variety – in a losing effort.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the triumph, Saint Joseph's improves to 13-6-2 all-time versus Simmons University. The Monks suffered a 2-1 setback at the hands of the Sharks last fall.
