Colby Holds Off Saint Joseph's, 3-1

STANDISH, Maine – Colby College (3-1-1) erased an early deficit with three unanswered goals to defeat Saint Joseph's College (1-4-0), 3-1, in non-conference men's soccer action at the SJC Athletics Complex on Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Despite Colby carrying the bulk of the early play, it was the Monks who struck first when junior Cole Bishop (Gorham, Maine) finished a feed from Joseph Perron (South Portland, Maine) in the eighth minute.

The Mules equalized in the 25th minute as Will Kogleman slipped a shot past SJC keeper Brendan L'italien (Douglas, Mass.), who was making his first collegiate start. Colby claimed the lead nine minutes later when Anthony Bugliari converted off a pass from Jude Gussen, and Bugliari added his second of the night in the 38th minute with help from Colin Leon and Gussen to close out the scoring.

TEAM STATS:
Colby held decisive advantages in shots (23-5), shots on goal (10-3), and corner kicks (7-1).

THE KEEPERS:

  • L'italien (SJC): 7 saves in first collegiate star
  • Jackson Magee (Colby): 2 saves in the win

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
