SJC Offense Comes to Life in 5-2 GNAC Victory

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (2-4-0, 2-1-0 GNAC) used a late offensive surge to pull away from Lasell University (2-4-1, 0-1-1 GNAC), securing a 5-2 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer victory at the SJC Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks wasted little time getting on the board as junior Cole Bishop (Gorham, Maine) scored in the 3rd minute off a setup from sophomore Nick Marion (Windham, Maine). Lasell answered two minutes later when graduate Daniel Faynstein (Needham, Mass.) scored to tie the match at 1-1.

Saint Joseph's reclaimed the advantage just before halftime when Marion netted his first of the day in the 38th minute, assisted by Bishop, sending the hosts into the break ahead 2-1.

Lasell struck back early in the second half as Owen O'Brien (Fiskdale, Mass.) scored in the 66th minute, but the Monks responded with a decisive three-goal flurry over the final 22 minutes. Marion bagged his second of the contest in the 69th minute, with Bishop earning his third assist of the day. Sophomore Godin Ndayishimiye (Burundi, Africa) added insurance in the 78th minute, and two minutes later he set up Joseph Perron (South Portland, Maine) to close out the 5-2 victory.
