FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Saint Joseph's College of Maine volleyball team opened GNAC play with a sweep, defeating Dean College, 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-20), Saturday afternoon at Pieri Gymnasium.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Saint Joseph's (3-7, 1-0 GNAC) controlled the match wire-to-wire, finishing with a .212 hitting percentage while holding Dean (1-6, 0-2 GNAC) to a .049 clip. The Monks raced out to a dominant 25-14 win in the opening set and matched the score in set two, hitting a match-best .323. Dean pushed back in the third with its best offensive frame, but the Monks closed strong to secure the sweep.
INDIVIDUAL STATS:
- Senior Victoria Briones (El Paso, Texas) posted a match-high 12 kills on .308 hitting to go with nine digs
- Junior Larisa Comolli (Nashua, N.H.) registered seven kills and two blocks
- Freshman Maddie Garrett (Euless, Texas) dished out 13 assists and added four digs
- Freshman Livy McDonough (West Friendship, Md.) contributed five digs and three aces
- Junior Greta Mackintosh (Plymouth, Mass.) tallied four kills on .429 hitting with three digs
- Senior Nadia Sixto (Chattanooga, Tenn.) chipped in two kills on .333 hitting and a block
- Junior Jessica Christman (Virginia Beach, Va.) recorded three assists, two aces, and five digs
- Junior Sabrina Arcilla (Rivervale, N.J.) anchored the back row with seven digs
- Dean was led by Caitlin Cooper, who hit .444 with five kills and three blocks.
BY THE NUMBERS:
- SJC held a 35–16 advantage in kills
- The Monks notched 31 assists to the Bulldogs' 16
- Saint Joseph's served 11 aces compared to Dean's 5
- Both teams tallied three blocks
