STANDISH, Maine – Senior guard Elisabeth Stapelfeld (Brookline, N.H.) led five Saint Joseph's College players in double figures with 15 points as the Monks (6-7, 1-0 GNAC) opened Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play with a 78-39 win over Mitchell College (2-7, 0-1 GNAC) on Saturday afternoon on Mike McDevitt Court at the Harold Alfond Center.
Saint Joseph's tied a program record with 70 rebounds and turned those extra possessions into a 20-2 advantage in second-chance points. The Monks last recorded 70 rebounds in a win over Fisher College on December 12, 2015.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Saint Joseph's set the tone early and held a 13-2 lead five minutes into the contest after sophomore Hayden Madore (Hallowell, Maine) finished a layup off a Layla Facchiano (Auburn, Maine) assist. The Monks led 24-11 after the first quarter and carried a 41-18 advantage into intermission. Saint Joseph's opened the third with an 11-0 run and led by at least 30 points the rest of the way.

Saint Joseph's held advantages in rebounds (70-40), second-chance points (20-2), bench points (24-0), and points in the paint (40-24). The Monks limited the Mariners to 20.8% shooting (16-for-77), including 8.3% from three-point range (2-for-24).
