Masse Nets Hat Trick in 8-0 Victory at Elms College

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College (5-5, 2-1 GNAC) defeated Elms College (0-9, 0-3 GNAC), 8-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) field hockey action on Saturday evening at Leary Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Freshman Chloe Masse (Oakland, Maine) led the Monks with three goals and an assist, while freshman Dasia Alberico (Skowhegan, Maine) added two goals.

Masse opened the scoring with an unassisted tally at 6:23. Sophomore Olivea Miller (Livermore Falls, Maine) doubled the lead with 28 seconds remaining in the first quarter, scoring off an assist from junior Zoey Lailer (Limington, Maine).

Alberico extended the advantage to 3-0 at 17:20 off a feed from junior Gabriella Thomas (Lewiston, Maine). The Monks then scored twice in a 17-second span late in the second quarter. Freshman Emma Lyons (Mirror Lake, N.H.) converted a Masse assist at 28:34, and Masse followed at 28:51 off a pass from freshman Lily Huntley (Wilton, Maine) to give Saint Joseph's a 5-0 halftime lead.

Alberico netted her second goal at 38:05 off an assist from Miller. Masse completed the hat trick at 48:37 with sophomore Ava Markham (Belfast, Maine) earning the assist, and freshman Macy Hickey (West Gardiner, Maine) capped the scoring with an unassisted goal at 54:15.

The Monks controlled play throughout, generating at least 12 shots in three of the four quarters while holding the Blazers without a shot.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the advantage in shots (52-0), shots on goal (35-0) and penalty corners (8-1) in the conference contest.

THE KEEPERS:

Freshman Sofia Bea (North Andover, Mass.) did not face a shot in 60 minutes to earn the shutout for the Monks. Elms goalkeeper Ashlyn Cullity recorded 27 saves in the setback.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

Saint Joseph's improved to 6-0 all-time against Elms College. The Monks have shut out the Blazers in every meeting, outscoring Elms by a combined 35-0 margin since the series began in 2021.
