STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (3-5-2, 3-2-1 GNAC) defeated the University of Saint Joseph (0-6-1, 0-3-1 GNAC), 1-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at the SJC Athletics Complex.
Prior to kickoff, Saint Joseph's honored the program's seven seniors—Jordan Huntley (Stafford Springs, Conn.), Taylor Mercier (Leicester, Mass.), Ava Caron (Boxford, Mass.), Brielle Pigott (Burlington, Mass.), Bridget Davis (Scarborough, Maine), Allie Doughty (Hollis, Maine) and Madisyn Ayres (Saco, Maine) - along with team manager Berkley Hutchins - during a brief Senior Day ceremony. Family members joined the honorees on the field for recognition and photos celebrating their contributions to the program.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The teams played a scoreless opening half despite a 7-4 advantage in shots for the Monks. Saint Joseph's put four attempts on target, while junior goalkeeper Ashlyn Guerette (Merrimack, N.H.) made three saves to keep the Blue Jays off the board.
The Monks increased the pressure after halftime and broke through at 57:41, when freshman Annalise Stimmell (Sanford, Maine) scored her third goal of the season off an assist from senior Bridget Davis (Scarborough, Maine). Stimmell had an attempt saved just over a minute earlier before netting the eventual game-winner.
Saint Joseph's continued to generate chances, finishing with 11 shots in the second half. Guerette preserved the lead with a save at 84:38, and the Monks held on to secure the conference victory.
Stimmell's goal snapped a three-game scoreless streak for the Monks, ending a stretch of 340:39 without a goal.
TEAM STATS:
Saint Joseph's held the advantage in shots (18-8), shots on goal (9-5) and corner kicks (4-2) in the conference contest.
THE KEEPERS:
Guerette recorded five saves in 90 minutes to earn the shutout for the Monks. USJ goalkeeper Madison Corcoran made eight saves in the setback.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 11-5-6 all-time against the University of Saint Joseph. The Monks have shut out the Blue Jays in consecutive meetings, following a 2-0 victory in West Hartford on October 25, 2025.
