NASHUA, N.H. – Saint Joseph's College (12-10, 7-2 GNAC) defeated Rivier University (2-20, 2-7 GNAC), 79-48, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's basketball contest on Wednesday evening at the Muldoon Center. With the win the Monks extend their winning streak to five games.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Saint Joseph's came out sharp on both ends, opening the game with a 10-0 burst and staking a 19-8 advantage going into the second quarter. The Monks continued to gain separation in the second stanza and carried a 40-17 lead into halftime.
Rivier showed fight coming out of the break and "won" the third quarter (16-13), to make it a 53-33 game heading into the final stanza.
Saint Joseph's answered emphatically in the final frame, erupting for 26 points—including a 6-for-9 shooting performance from deep—to close out the 79-48 win.
STATS OF THE GAME:
Saint Joseph's knocked down 13 three-pointers and netted 28 points off 23 Rivier turnovers. The Monks also controlled the glass, generating 19 second-chance points and finishing with a 42-32 rebounding edge, while the bench outscored Rivier's reserves, 27-14.
