SJC Women Place Sixth, Men Eighth in USCSA GS Championships

CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College women's alpine ski team finished eighth (5:56.28) in the USCSA Eastern Regional Giant Slalom Championship at Sugarloaf Mountain on Saturday. The Monks' men also placed eighth with a total time of 5:30.34.

THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:

Vermont State University – Castleton placed three of the top nine finishers and paced the 14-team field with a time of 5:25.88, less than one second ahead of runner-up Babson College (5:26.20). Northeastern University finished third (5:39.97), University of Connecticut placed fourth (5:41.15), and University of Massachusetts rounded out the top five (5:47.92).

A pair of Clarkson University skiers finished in the top three, as Ariana Welter (1:46.40) and Elyse Donaghue (1:47.34) placed first and third, respectively. Castleton's Emilie Stene was second with a 1:46.83 effort.

Holy Cross (6:08.60), Tufts (6:10.29), Boston University (6:15.83), Clarkson (6:25.25), Bowdoin (6:34.28), MIT (7:06.05), UMaine-Orono (7:15.74), and Marist (7:49.86) also raced in the giant slalom.

  • Ava Beaudin (Fr., Raymond, Maine) - 21st, 1:57.67 (57.28 / 1:00.39)
  • Hannah Golden (Jr., Concord, N.H.) - 31st, 2:05.68 (1:01.88 / 1:03.80)
  • Sienna Mack (Sr., Lincoln, N.H.) - 40th, 2:16.60 (1:08.98 / 1:07.62)
  • Reese Burke (So., Center Barnstead, N.H.) - DNF (1:04.68 / DNF)

THE RUNDOWN – MEN:

Babson secured the men's GS title with a total time of 5:04.82, nearly 10 seconds ahead of runner-up Clarkson University (5:13.65). University of Connecticut (5:13.79), UMaine-Farmington (5:14.98), and University of Massachusetts (5:18.51) rounded out the top five teams.

Marin Vigneras (UMass.) won the individual title with a 1:40.70 effort, while Ian Hanrahan (UConn.) placed second (1:40.79). Three Babson skiers followed, as Elliot Perretta (1:41.02), James Rosenbloom (1:41.57), and Benjamin Hostetter (1:42.23) placed third through fifth, respectively.

Tufts (5:27.99), Northeastern (5:28.77), Holy Cross (5:47.96), Coast Guard (5:53.54), Boston University (5:54.08), Castleton (6:06.53), Bowdoin (6:08.03), WPI (6:13.74), Marist (6:14.65), and University of Rhode Island (6:24.09) also competed in the GS championship.
