BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Saint Joseph's College of Maine junior
Haytham Ramadan capped a historic indoor season with a fifth-place finish in the men's 800 meters at the 2026 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Ramadan, the first NCAA indoor track & field national qualifier in Saint Joseph's indoor program history, advanced out of Friday's preliminary round with a time of 1:52.71, placing third in Heat 1 and earning one of the two at-large spots in the final. He opened in 27.61, came through 400 meters in 55.51, and closed well to secure his spot in Saturday's championship race.
In the final, Ramadan delivered again, running 1:51.41 to place fifth overall in the nation and score four team points for the Monks. He split 26.46, 53.80, and 1:22.68 before finishing just two-tenths of a second out of fourth place in a tightly contested final. Dickinson senior Trevor Richwine claimed the national title in a meet-record 1:48.17.
Ramadan entered the championship after a record-breaking regular season, highlighted by his school-record 1:51.99 at the Tufts Final Qualifier on March 7, which earned him the fifth-fastest seed time in the national field.
"Beyond excited for Haytham to have this opportunity to compete at the national level and represent Saint Joseph's College of Maine," said head coach Mike Burleson. "He's been putting in some serious work during the second half of the season and, most importantly, believing in himself. His training has been focused and he has executed excellent race plans at the right time of the year. Haytham is an incredibly gifted athlete and a wonderful person, and couldn't be more proud of him."
With his performance in Birmingham, Ramadan closed the season as both a school record-holder and an NCAA Division III All-American, adding another major milestone to one of the best indoor campaigns in program history.
