Monks Dominant in Sweep Over Pride

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (12-16, 5-5 GNAC) swept a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) softball doubleheader from Regis College (5-19, 2-8 GNAC) on Saturday at Richard W. Bailey Field, earning a 7-2 victory in the opener before completing the sweep with a 7-0 shutout in game two.

The Monks received strong pitching in both contests and totaled 14 runs on 20 hits to get back to .500 in conference play.

GAME ONE – Saint Joseph's 7, Regis 2

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Regis pushed across a run in the top of the first, but Saint Joseph's answered with four runs in the bottom of the second to take control. Freshman Brianna Eastman (West Baldwin, Maine) tied the game with an RBI double, sophomore Makayla Quintal (Gorham, Maine) followed with a two-run homer, and freshman Jaylah Trottier (Biddeford, Maine) added an RBI single to make it 4-1.

The Monks added two more in the fourth on a two-run single by senior Chantelle Bouchard (Biddeford, Maine) and tacked on another in the sixth when senior Sadie Tirrell (Naples, Maine) brought home a run on a fielder's choice. Regis scored once in the sixth, but Saint Joseph's closed out the opener from there.

GAME TWO – Saint Joseph's 7, Regis 0

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Saint Joseph's grabbed control early with two runs in the first and two more in the second. Tirrell plated the game's first run with an RBI single, and Olivia Thomas followed with a run-scoring hit later in the inning. In the second, Tirrell added another RBI single and Bouchard lifted a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 4-0.

The Monks put the nightcap away with a three-run fifth. Bouchard doubled home a run, junior Kryslin Stearns (Concord, N.H.) followed with an RBI triple, and sophomore Addison French (Rochester, N.H.) singled in another run to cap the scoring. Senior Miranda Northrup (Whitefield, Maine) handled the rest in the circle, tossing a four-hit shutout.
