STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (9-6, 8-2 GNAC) defeated Emmanuel College (6-8, 5-4 GNAC), 10-5, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's lacrosse action at the SJC Athletics Complex on Saturday evening.
SENIOR MOMENT:
Prior to face-off, Saint Joseph's held a brief ceremony to honor the program's four seniors and their families: David Cook (Upton, Mass.), Jason Dernier (Marshfield, Mass.), Jon Elliott (Upton, Mass.), and Kevin Wood (Danvers, Mass.). Over the last four seasons, the Monks' Class of 2026 has compiled a 35-31 (.530) overall record, including a 27-11 (.711) mark in conference play, with three GNAC Tournament appearances.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Saint Joseph's jumped out to an early lead in the opening quarter, scoring four unanswered goals. Junior Brandon Cavicchi (Kingston, Mass.) ignited the offense before junior Nicolas Michaud (Wales, Maine) scored three straight times to give the Monks a 4-0 advantage after one frame.
Emmanuel responded in the second quarter with a pair of early goals from junior Brandon Shuman (Westfield, Mass.) and senior Chase Greenlaw (Warwick, R.I.) to cut the deficit to 4-2. The Monks answered with a goal from sophomore Noah Schaeffer (Gray, Maine), but the Saints received a late tally from senior Ethan Madura (Clinton, Conn.) to make it a 5-3 game at halftime.
Saint Joseph's created more separation in the third quarter as junior Joseph Kiedaisch (Westminster, Mass.) scored back-to-back goals. Emmanuel answered with another goal from Madura, but the Monks carried a 7-4 lead into the fourth.
In the final quarter, Saint Joseph's pulled away with three consecutive goals from graduate student Jack Leach (Pembroke, Mass.), Schaeffer, and Kiedaisch. Emmanuel got a late goal from Madura, but the Monks closed out the 10-5 victory.
STATS OF THE GAME:
Saint Joseph's controlled the game by consistently winning possession and limiting Emmanuel's offensive chances. The Monks dominated face-offs (17-1), owned a decisive 40-12 edge in ground balls, and outshot the Saints by a 33-17 margin.
