GAME ONE – Saint Joseph's 3, New England College 2
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Saint Joseph's used steady pitching and timely hitting to edge New England College in the opener. After the Pilgrims scored an unearned run in the first, sophomore Nick Villano (Peabody, Mass.) tied the game with an RBI double in the second and sophomore Jake Carlisle (Portsmouth, N.H.) put the Monks in front with a solo homer in the fifth.
New England College pulled even on a solo shot in the seventh, but the Monks answered immediately in the bottom half. Junior Vinny O'Leary (North Quincy, Mass.) drew a leadoff walk, moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt, and came home when senior Jared Wilhelm (Tolland, Conn.) lined the game-winning single to center for the 3-2 walk-off victory.

Trailing 6-1 entering the seventh, the Monks erupted for six runs to move in front, 7-6. Frink started the comeback with a sacrifice fly, Wilhelm launched a three-run homer, senior Ryan Kastle (Concord, N.H.) worked a bases-loaded walk to tie the game, and O'Leary followed with a sacrifice fly to give Saint Joseph's its first lead.
New England College answered with a two-run homer in the eighth, but the Monks responded with their biggest punch of the day in the bottom half. Frink lined a two-run jack over the left field wall to put Saint Joseph's back on top, and the Monks piled on from there with RBI contributions from senior Michael Richards (Melrose, Mass.) and sophomore Nick Brindle (Pittsfield, Mass.) before surviving a late NEC push to win, 15-12.
