UNE Takes Two from SJC, 8-0 & 7-5

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (10-16) dropped both ends of a non-conference softball doubleheader to the University of New England (9-8) on Monday at Richard W. Bailey Field, falling 8-0 in the opener before coming up short, 7-5, in game two.

GAME ONE – University of New England 8, Saint Joseph's 0

HOW IT HAPPENED:

UNE broke a scoreless game with a run in the third and added two more in the fifth to take control. The Nor'easters then put the opener away with three runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh, while Saint Joseph's was limited to just two hits and did not advance a runner past second base until the final inning.

GAME TWO – University of New England 7, Saint Joseph's 5

HOW IT HAPPENED:

UNE grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second, but the Monks answered with two runs in the fourth to move in front. Chantelle Bouchard scored on a passed ball and freshman Bella Napolitano-Aberle (Portland, Maine) followed with an RBI groundout to make it 2-1. The Nor'easters responded with three runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to open a 7-2 advantage.

Saint Joseph's battled back with two runs in the bottom of the sixth, as sophomore Makayla Quintal (Gorham, Maine) tripled home a run and later scored on a strikeout. The Monks added one more in the seventh on an RBI single by Napolitano-Aberle, but UNE held on to finish off the sweep.
