STANDISH, Maine – Senior Jordan Huntley (Stafford Springs, Conn.) and freshman Paige Garlock (Scarborough, Maine) scored two goals apiece as Saint Joseph's College (1-3-0, 1-0-0 GNAC) opened Great Northeast Athletic Conference play with a 5-0 victory over Dean College (1-3-1, 0-1-0 GNAC) at the Saint Joseph's Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Huntley opened the scoring in the 18th minute and struck again at the 28:33 mark to give Saint Joseph's a 2-0 advantage.
Garlock doubled the Monks' lead late in the opening half, scoring in the 39th - her first NCAA goal - and 44th minutes as the hosts carried a 4-0 cushion into intermission.
Freshman Annalise Stimmell (Sanford, Maine) capped the scoring with her first collegiate tally in the 85th minute.
TEAM STATS:
Saint Joseph's held a 12-11 edge in shots, including a 9-8 advantage in shots on goal. Dean earned all eight corner kicks in the contest.
THE KEEPERS:
Junior Ashlyn Guerette (Merrimack, N.H.) made two saves during a scoreless first half to earn the victory. Sophomore Jayden Harvell (Presque Isle, Maine) stopped one shot over the first 23:01 of the second stanza, while freshman Gabby Chasse (Brewer, Maine) recorded five saves—including a stop on Colleen McIntyre's penalty kick in the 72nd minute—to complete the Monks' first combined shutout of the season.
Dean goalkeeper Chloe Murdock made four saves in the setback.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
With the victory, Saint Joseph's improves to 5-0-1 in the all-time series against Dean. The Monks have won three consecutive meetings and have outscored the Bulldogs by a 20-2 margin across the six match-ups.
