NEWTON, Mass. – Lasell University (4-1-0, 2-0-0 GNAC) defeated Saint Joseph's College (1-4-0, 1-1-0 GNAC), 3-1, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer action at Taylor Field on Wednesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Lasell opened the scoring when Aubrey Currier converted a feed from Mia Pineault in the third minute and extended the lead to 2-0 on a Marisa Krosky goal in the 22nd minute.
The Monks cut their deficit in half at the 33:08 mark. Senior forward Jordan Huntley (Stafford Springs, Conn.) set up first-year forward Paige Garlock (Scarborough, Maine), who found the back of the net to make it a 2-1 contest heading into halftime.
Saint Joseph's generated the first opportunity of the second half when Huntley sent a shot high just 15 seconds after the restart. Lasell restored its two-goal advantage in the 52nd minute when Krosky scored her second goal of the afternoon.
The Monks continued to push forward and earned consecutive corner kicks in the 82nd minute. First-year midfielder Abigail Kajunski (Hanover, Mass.) followed with a shot less than a minute later, but the attempt sailed wide and the Lasers maintained their 3-1 lead through the final horn.
TEAM STATS:
Lasell held advantages in shots (20-6), shots on goal (11-4) and corner kicks (8-2) in the conference contest. The Monks were also flagged for five offside calls in the setback.
THE KEEPERS:
Junior goalkeeper Ashlyn Guerette (Merrimack, N.H.) made eight saves in the loss, including five during the first half. Regan Sullivan stopped three shots to earn the victory for Lasell.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
With the result, Saint Joseph's falls to 6-19-2 all-time versus Lasell University.
