STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (2-4, 2-1 GNAC) defeated Mitchell College (0-7, 0-2 GNAC), 9-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer action at the Saint Joseph's Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon.
Nine different players scored for the Monks, who netted seven goals in the first half and added two following the break.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Senior forward Taylor Mercier (Leicester, Mass.) opened the scoring in the seventh minute when she converted a feed from senior Jordan Huntley (Stafford Springs, Conn.).
The Monks struck twice in a span of 21 seconds midway through the first half. First-year Abigail Kajunski (Hanover, Mass.) scored off a pass from senior Bridget Davis (Scarborough, Maine) at the 20:09 mark before Huntley, also assisted by Davis, extended the lead to 3-0 at 20:30.
Junior Abby Lloyd (Windham, Maine) made it a four-goal contest in the 33rd minute when she finished another Davis feed. First-year Annalise Stimmell (Sanford, Maine) followed with a goal from sophomore Emily Robert at 37:44.
First-year Carina Castagna (Turner, Maine) converted a penalty kick with 40 seconds remaining in the opening half, and Davis capped the seven-goal period with an unassisted marker at the 44:48 mark.
Sophomore Annika Kurotori (San Jose, Calif.) added an unassisted goal in the 72nd minute. Sophomore Kenzie Cochran (Freeport, Maine) completed the scoring at 77:02 off passes from Huntley and first-year Isabella McCall (Sanford, Maine).
TEAM STATS:
Saint Joseph's held advantages in shots (46-0), shots on goal (31-0), and corner kicks (10-0).
THE KEEPERS:
Junior Ashlyn Guerette (Merrimack, N.H.), first-year Gabby Chasse (Brewer, Maine), and sophomore Jayden Harvell (Presque Isle, Maine) combined to record the shutout. Guerette played the opening 45 minutes to earn the victory, while Chasse and Harvell split time during the second half. None of the three SJC goalkeepers was required to make a save.
Ronnie Keays made 17 saves and allowed nine goals in 66:18 for Mitchell. Olivia Moses stopped all five shots she faced during 23:42 of relief duty.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
Saint Joseph's is now 6-0-0 all-time versus Mitchell College.
