WATERVILLE, Maine – Junior goalkeeper Ashlyn Guerette (Merrimack, N.H.) made five saves as Saint Joseph's College (2-4-1) battled Thomas College (3-2-1) to a scoreless draw in non-conference women's soccer action at Smith Field on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Monks controlled much of the opening half, outshooting the Terriers by a 10-3 margin and placing six attempts on goal.
Saint Joseph's generated three shots on target during a five-minute stretch midway through the half. Seniors Madisyn Ayres (Saco, Maine), Jordan Huntley (Stafford Springs, Conn.), and Bridget Davis (Scarborough, Maine) each tested the Thomas goalkeeper between the 22nd and 27th minutes.
First-year midfielder Isabella McCall (Sanford, Maine) added an attempt on goal in the 38th minute before first-year midfielder Abigail Kajunski (Hanover, Mass.) and Davis both forced saves during the closing five minutes of the opening frame.
Thomas applied more pressure in the second half, but Guerette turned away three shots to keep the game scoreless. She made saves in the 51st and 59th minutes before stopping another attempt with just over five minutes remaining.
The Monks produced one final scoring push in the closing minute. Junior Maeve Davis (Scarborough, Maine) sent a shot wide with 45 seconds remaining, and Kajunski put an attempt on goal 28 seconds later, but Thomas goalkeeper Emily Rock made the save to preserve the draw.
TEAM STATS:
Saint Joseph's held leads in shots (12-9), shots on goal (7-5), and corner kicks (5-1) in the non-conference stalemate.
THE KEEPERS:
Guerette recorded five saves in the shutout, while Rock stopped seven shots for the hosts.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
Sunday's result marked the first tie in the 46-game history between Saint Joseph's and Thomas. The Monks are now 39-6-1 in the series and unbeaten in the last 25 meetings dating back to 1998.
Saint Joseph's has also held Thomas scoreless in four consecutive match-ups, including victories of 1-0 in 2017, 3-0 in 2019, and 4-0 in 2025.
