NEW LONDON, N.H. – Saint Joseph's College (2–4–2, 2–1–1 GNAC) and Colby-Sawyer College (1–4–2, 0–2–2 GNAC) played to a 0–0 tie Wednesday afternoon at Kelsey Field.
Including Sunday's 0–0 tie at Thomas College, the Monks have played consecutive scoreless ties for the first time since October 1996, when they tied the University of New England on October 9 and Maine-Presque Isle on October 13.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Sophomore Annika Kurotori (San Jose, Calif.) put SJC's first shot on goal in the fifth minute. Senior Bridget Davis (Scarborough, Maine) struck the woodwork in the 18th, then forced a save shortly after freshman Isabella McCall (Sanford, Maine) tested the Colby-Sawyer goalkeeper in the 34th minute.
The Monks kept creating chances after halftime. Freshman Abigail Kajunski (Hanover, Mass.) put a shot on target in the 53rd minute, while Davis and freshman Paige Garlock (Scarborough, Maine) each forced saves later in the half. Kurotori had SJC's final shot on goal in the 83rd minute. Guerette preserved the tie with her fourth save in the 87th.
TEAM STATS:
Saint Joseph's held a 16–6 advantage in shots and a 7–4 edge in shots on goal. Davis led the Monks with four attempts, while Kurotori and junior Abbey Laney (Standish, Maine) took three apiece. Colby-Sawyer held a 3–2 edge in corner kicks.
THE KEEPERS:
Junior goalkeeper Ashlyn Guerette (Merrimack, N.H.) made four saves for her second consecutive shutout while Colby-Sawyer netminders Nicole Morello and Lyndsey Valletta split the contest with four and three stops in the first and second periods, respectively.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
Wednesday's result moved Saint Joseph's to 8–4–2 all-time against Colby-Sawyer. It was the first scoreless tie in a series dating to 1989 and the first tie between the programs since a 2–2 result in 1991.
