STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (2-5-2, 2-2-1 GNAC) fell to Norwich University (5-2-1, 2-2-1 GNAC), 1-0, Friday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's soccer action at the SJC Athletics Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Junior goalkeeper Ashlyn Guerette (Merrimack, N.H.) made four first-half saves to keep the game scoreless at the break. She added four more stops in the opening eight minutes of the second half as Norwich pressed for a goal.
Lily Briggs broke the tie at 66:53 with the game's lone goal. Saint Joseph's looked for an equalizer late, putting two shots up in a five-second span in the 75th minute. Junior Maeve Davis (Scarborough, Maine) put an attempt on goal at 86:08, but it was saved.
TEAM STATS:
Norwich held the advantage in shots (14-7), shots on goal (10-2), and corner kicks (5-1).
THE KEEPERS:
Guerette finished with nine saves for Saint Joseph's. Norwich's Sophie Olivo made two saves to earn the shutout.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
Saint Joseph's is now 11-5-4 all-time against Norwich. The Cadets have won the last three meetings.
