HENNIKER, N.H. – Saint Joseph's College (2-2-4, 1-0-3 GNAC) defeated New England College (4-3-1, 0-2-1 GNAC), 3-0, Wednesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer action at Don Melander Field.
Juniors Curtis Metcalf (South Portland, Maine), Godin Ndayishimiye (Bujumbura, Burundi) and Nick Marion (Windham, Maine) scored for the Monks.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Metcalf hit the post in the fifth minute before breaking through at 25:39, heading home a cross from sophomore Mattheus Silva (Acton, Mass.) to give Saint Joseph's a 1-0 halftime lead.
The Monks doubled their advantage at 62:43 when Ndayishimiye headed in a pass from Metcalf. Metcalf struck the post again in the 74th minute, and Marion made it 3-0 at 75:54 after running onto a through ball from freshman Khalil Ghosheh (Scarborough, Maine).
TEAM STATS:
Saint Joseph's held the advantage in shots (25-9), shots on goal (11-4) and corner kicks (11-0) in the conference contest.
THE KEEPERS:
Senior Alex Bachmann (Scarborough, Maine) made four saves for the Monks' shutout. Matt Guzman stopped eight shots for New England College.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
With the victory, Saint Joseph's improved to 3-2-1 all-time against New England College and earned its first road win in the series. The Monks have kept the Pilgrims scoreless in four consecutive meetings, dating to a 2-0 victory in 2023.
