BRIGHTON, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College (4–3, 1–0 GNAC) defeated Simmons University (0–8, 0–2 GNAC), 3–1, Wednesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) field hockey action at Daly Field.
Sophomore Myia SeeHusen (Corinna, Maine) scored twice for the Monks, while sophomore Ava Markham (Belfast, Maine) added a goal and an assist.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
SeeHusen opened the scoring at 5:32 of the first quarter, shortly after a Markham shot was saved. Markham assisted on SeeHusen's second goal at 10:13, giving the Monks a 2–0 lead.
Markham extended the advantage to 3–0 at 22:27 of the second quarter. Simmons generated several chances soon after, but SJC senior goalkeeper Kimberley McLaughlin (Lewiston, Maine) made four saves in a span of less than two minutes to keep the Sharks off the board.
The Monks put nine shots on goal in the third quarter, but Simmons held them scoreless. Penelope Long scored for the Sharks off a pass from Nora Desrosiers at 44:02 to make it 3-1. Saint Joseph's allowed just one shot on goal in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
TEAM STATS:
Saint Joseph's held the advantage in shots (18-12) and shots on goal (16-7) while both teams attempted four penalty corners in the conference contest.
THE KEEPERS:
McLaughlin made six saves in 60 minutes for Saint Joseph's. Simmons' Haley Bright stopped four shots in the first half, and Jamila Mohamed made seven saves after halftime. Sharks defenders also recorded two defensive saves.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
With Wednesday's win, Saint Joseph's improved to 24–12 all-time against Simmons. The Monks have won three straight meetings and earned their first road victory over the Sharks since a 1–0 win in 2019.
