STANDISH, Maine – Sixth-year Head Coach Tyler Ackley has welcomed five newcomers to the Saint Joseph’s College men’s basketball program ahead of the 2026-27 season.
The incoming class adds five guards from four New England states. Aging Aging (Manchester, N.H.) and Marcel Rose (Rochester, N.H.) arrive from Manchester Memorial and Spaulding high schools, respectively. Gum Malek (Guilford, Conn.) joins the Monks from Guilford High School, Max Pires (Shrewsbury, Mass.) comes to Saint Joseph’s from Putnam Science Academy, and Ethan Whalen (Rutland, Vermont) is a Rutland High School product.
The newcomers join a program seeking its third consecutive Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) championship. Saint Joseph’s finished last season with a 20-9 overall record and went undefeated in conference play at 12-0 before defeating the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.), 92-58, in the GNAC Championship and advancing to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
The Monks were selected to finish first in the 2026-27 GNAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll, collecting 12 first-place votes and 168 points. The returning roster includes reigning GNAC Player of the Year Remijo Wani (Portland, Maine) and GNAC Rookie of the Year Davis Mann (Falmouth, Maine).
Saint Joseph’s 25-game regular-season schedule features 16 GNAC contests, nine non-conference matchups, and 12 home games. The Monks open at home against Clark University on November 7 at 2:00 PM before hosting Husson University on November 11. The early-season slate also includes a trip to the Great Lakes Invitational for matchups with Marietta College and Illinois Wesleyan University on November 20 and 21.
GNAC competition begins December 1 at Colby-Sawyer College, and the regular season concludes February 20 at New England College.
