Box Score BOSTON, MA - Simmons College (4-1, 1-0 GNAC) defeated conference rival Saint Joseph's College (3-1, 0-1 GNAC), 17-14, Wednesday night to remain undefeated on their home field.
Simmons was the first to score with a goal from sophomore Rachel Wallace (Braintree, Mass.) who would go on to tally three more unanswered goals to give the Sharks a 4-0 lead. Cassandra Diplock would answer back at 15:15 for the Monks, and the two teams would battle back and forth for the next 15 minutes to end the first half with Simmons with the light lead11-8.
Simmons came out strong in the second half scoring first with a free position goal from sophomore Meg Coffey (Wilmot, N.H.) in the first minute of play.
Wallace would again lead the Sharks in goals on the game with six followed closely behind by junior Meaghan Maurice (Portland, Maine) and freshman Taylor Nisbet (Dartmouth, Mass.) with four goals apiece. The Monks scoring effort was led by Alyssa Marchant '11 (Wakefield, MA), who had six goals on the night and Cassandra Diplock '14 (Augusta, ME), who tallied five markers in the setback.
With the scoring output, Marchant became the second player in SJC program history to net 200 career points. With 205 points (178 goals, 27 assists) in 46 career games, Marchant joins former teammate Lauren Hagerman '10, who recorded 207 points (130 goals, 77 assists) in 39 contests.
Sophomore Kelly Last (West Haven, Conn.) picked up the win for the Sharks making 16 saves, while Taylor Allison '12 (Pawtucket, RI) made the start for the Monks and recorded 14 stops between the pipes.
Saint Joseph's will return to action on Saturday evening at Mt. Ida beginning at 4 p.m., while the Sharks won't take the field again until Wednesday April 6th at Rivier with a game 4:00p.m.
