Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – The Saint Joseph's College women's lacrosse team saw its postseason run come to an end Wednesday afternoon with a 9-4 loss to Emmanuel College in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) semifinals. With the win, the Saints punched their ticket to the GNAC championship game, while the Monks wrapped up their season with a 12-6 record.
Emmanuel set the tone early, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the opening quarter behind two goals and an assist from Madeline Wright. The Saints dominated possession, outshooting Saint Joseph's 9-2 and winning all four draw controls in the first 15 minutes.
Saint Joseph's got on the board midway through the second quarter when Shauna Clark (Oakland, ME) scored on a free-position shot. The Saints quickly responded with another goal from Wright, taking a 5-1 lead into halftime.
The Monks came out of the break with renewed energy. Celia Melanson (Waterford, ME) scored off a feed from Taylor Dumond (Minisink, NY) just over a minute into the third quarter, and Sophia Burton (Westtown, NY) followed up with a free-position goal to make it 5-3. Emmanuel answered again, scoring twice before the end of the period to stretch the lead to 7-3.
Ella Highbarger (Kennebunk, ME) gave the Monks hope with a man-up goal assisted by Melanson with just over seven minutes to play, cutting the deficit to 7-4. The Saints closed the door with back-to-back goals from Emilia Ferraro and Abby Brown to seal the win.
Emmanuel controlled the draw circle, finishing with a 15-2 edge, which proved critical in maintaining possession and limiting the Monks' offensive chances. The Saints also held a 24-17 advantage in shots.
Despite the pressure, Saint Joseph's goalie Morgan Wright (Chelmsford, MA) made seven saves. On defense, the Monks forced 32 turnovers and collected 25 ground balls, led by Ava Molineaux (Rowley, MA) with six. Clark made an impact on both ends of the field, tallying three caused turnovers, four ground balls, and a goal.
Madeline Wright led Emmanuel's attack with four goals and two assists, while Danica Srimouksavanh added two goals and two assists. Saints keeper Isabella Thomas stood tall in net, finishing with 11 saves.
The Monks close out a strong season with a 12-6 record and a trip to the GNAC semifinals. With several key contributors set to return, Saint Joseph's will aim to build on this year's progress moving forward.
