BANGOR, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (7-5, 6-2 GNAC) toppled Husson University (5-4, 0-1 NAC), 20-4, in a non-conference women's lacrosse contest on a cold and snowy Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Husson scored the game's first goal 25 seconds into the game, but the Monks responded with five tallies over the following 10 minutes as part of a 17-0 run, which was capped by a Maddy Beaulieu (West Gardiner, Maine) strike with 21:38 left to play.

THE KEEPERS:

Saint Joseph's freshman Madelyn Nelson (Casco, Maine) made a pair of saves on six shots while her counterpart, Husson sophomore Mallory Burchill (Kennebunk, Maine), had a dozen saves on 32 shots.

TEAM STATS:

The Monks held the lead in turnovers (6-19), draw controls (13-12), shots (37-10) and ground balls (15-5).

MILESTONE MET:

With her fourth of five goals in tonight's triumph, senior midfielder Kayla Kelly (York, Maine) became the seventh player in program history to score 100 career goals. She now has 101 goals and 32 assists for 133 points in 63 career contests.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Senior Kayla Kelly (York, Maine) led the way five goals on eight shots, seven draw controls and one ground ball
  • Senior Brittney Arsenault (Westbrook, Maine) tallied three goals, two grounds balls, two caused turnovers and one draw control
  • Sophomore Lydia Dexter (Oakland, Maine) notched three goals, two ground balls and one caused turnover
  • Sophomore Josie Ring (Newfield, Maine) scored three goals with a pair of ground balls and two caused turnovers
  • Freshman Logan Champlin (Alfred, Maine) racked up two goals, four draw controls, two caused turnovers and one ground ball
  • Freshman Molly Barr (Gorham, Maine) produced two goals, two ground balls and one draw control

LEADERS – HUSSON:

  • Freshman Mary Cushing (Fairfield, Vt.) netted three of the Eagles' four goals with 10 draw controls
  • Rose Davies (Attleboro, Mass.) had a successful strike at net with a ground ball

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

Saint Joseph's is now 9-0-1 all-time versus Husson University.

Saint Joseph's will travel to Johnson & Wales University (Providence, R.I.) on Saturday for a conference contest slated to begin at 1:00 PM.
