Monks Surge Past AMCATS, 19-10

Box Score

PAXTON, Mass. – The Saint Joseph's College men's lacrosse team (3-3, 1-1 GNAC) snapped a three-game losing streak with a 19-10 victory over Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) rival Anna Maria College (1-4, 1-2 GNAC) on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The AMCATS grabbed an early lead with a goal three minutes into play, but the Monks responded with four unanswered tallies and held a 4-1 advantage after freshman Jacob Radwan (Strafford, N.H.) scored with 5:43 left in the opening quarter.

Leading 7-2 after the first 15 minutes of play, a low-scoring second quarter – during which just three total goals were netted – saw the Monks carry a 9-3 cushion into intermission.

St. Joe's opened the third period with three consecutive strikes, including a man-up marker from sophomore Max Lacy (Salisbury, N.H.) just 12 seconds into the penultimate quarter, to stake a 12-3 advantage. Anna Maria proceeded to fight back into contention with a 4-1 run and faced a 13-7 deficit going into the fourth frame.

The AMCATS' offensive surge seemed to spark the Monks' attack, as the Royal Blue put the game out of reach with four straight scores, capped by a man-down goal from Radwan, to claim a game-high 10-goal (17-7) cushion with 6:25 remaining.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (49-34), shots on goal (38-21), ground balls (47-26), and face-off victories (22-10) in the victory. St. Joe's cleared successfully on 16-of-19 attempts while Anna Maria was 15-for-26 on clearing bids.

SJC junior starter Michael Janocha (Southampton, Mass.) earned the win after making five saves in the first half while sophomore Brannon Gilbert (Gray, Maine) steered away six shots in the second stanza. Anna Maria senior netminder Griffin Moore (Worcester, Mass.) played well in a losing effort with 19 stops.
