BANGOR, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (3-0) soared past Husson University (0-1), 19-1, in a non-conference women's lacrosse contest on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks dominated play right from the start, as sophomore Carson Battaglia (Gorham, Maine) scored off a Cailyn Wesley (Peabody, Mass.) pass just 54 seconds into the game. The opening tally proved to be the first of 17 unanswered goals, as St. Joe's held Husson off the board until the 8:14 mark of the third quarter when junior Sophia Gomez (Chelsea, Mass.) picked up a draw control and netted an unassisted goal.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held sizeable leads in shots (45-4), shots on goal (28-2), ground balls (32-10), draw controls (17-6) and caused turnovers in the victory.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC freshman starter Jenna Shutt (Holliston, Mass.) did not face a shot in 35:27 minutes while first-year Morgan Wright (Chelmsford, Mass.) stopped one of the two shots she faced in 24:33 minutes of play.

Husson freshman starter Emma Begin (Lewiston, Maine) allowed 14 goals and made six saves in the first half while rookie Emily Godfrey (Adams, Mass.) yielded five goals and turned away three shots in the second stanza.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Grad student Lydia Dexter (Oakland, Maine) tallied four goals, five assists, three ground balls, and three caused turnovers
  • Wesley scored three goals with an assist and three ground balls
  • Sophomore Heather Rohr (Merrimack, N.H.) scored two goals with two ground balls
  • Freshman Brianna Paul (Brattleboro, Vt.) scored twice and picked up a pair of ground balls
  • Sophomore Bridget Collins (Milford, Conn.) tallied a goal and two assists
  • Sophomore Megan Mourmouras (Biddeford, Maine) added a pair of assists, five ground balls, and two caused turnovers

LEADERS – HUSSON:

  • Gomez netted the Eagles' lone goal on her only shot of the game and added four draw controls in the loss
  • Godfrey picked up three ground balls

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

Saint Joseph's is 11-0-1 all-time versus Husson University and today's 18-goal margin of victory is the largest in the 12-game series.
