STANDISH, ME-Angelica Hurley (Groveland, MA) delivered a standout performance with 17 points and 10 rebounds—both game-high totals—to lead Saint Joseph's College (5-2) to a dominant 68-38 win over the University of Southern Maine (4-3) in a non-conference women's basketball game on Sunday evening at Mike McDevitt Court.
With the win, the Monks secured the Costello Cup for the ninth consecutive season. The annual Costello Cup, awarded to the winner of the rivalry game, honors the late Dr. Richard "Doc" Costello, former USM Athletic Director and long-time coach for both the men's and women's basketball programs. Saint Joseph's victory on Sunday gives them the cup for the ninth straight year and the 13th time in the 33-year history of the series. Southern Maine still leads the Costello Cup series, 21-13. This matchup marked the 56th meeting between the two teams, with Southern Maine holding a 41-15 lead in the all-time series. However, Saint Joseph's has now won the last nine encounters, including a 53-52 win on November 26, 2023.
