Monks Sail Past Bulldogs, 18-2

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (6-2, 2-0 GNAC) toppled Dean College (1-4, 0-4 GNAC), 18-2, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's lacrosse contest at the SJC Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Sophomore attack Sophia Burton (Westtown, N.Y.) opened the scoring just 23 seconds into play and junior Mackenzie Siebert (Naples, Maine) capped the first quarter ledger with a tally off a Carson Battaglia (Gorham, Maine) pass and the hosts holding a 6-0 lead.

The Monks obtained a 10-0 cushion when Battaglia netted her third goal of the game on a free position shot with 10:51 before the break. Junior Mackenzie Farnham (South Portland, Maine) scored her first NCAA goal at the 5:03 mark of the second quarter and first year Taylor Dumond (Minisink, N.Y.) capped the first half scoring to make it a 12-0 game with 1:48 left in the half.

Six different SJC players hit pay dirt in the second half before the Bulldogs completed the game scoring with goals from Nina Medeiros (Fairhaven, Mass.) and Caroline Ramsey (Shreveport, La.) in the closing five minutes.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (34-9), shots on goal (24-7), ground balls (36-23), draw controls (14-10), and caused turnovers (18-8) in the victory.

THE KEEPERS:

St. Joe's deployed all three goalies in the triumph, as sophomore Alexis Eldridge (Effingham, N.H.) made one save in the first quarter, junior Morgan Wright (Chelmsford, Mass.) was untested during the second quarter, and freshman Julia Price (Newbury, Mass.) added four saves in the fourth frame.

Dean sophomore netminder Allie Stockwell (Burrillville, R.I.) made six saves with seven ground balls and three caused turnovers.

MILESTONES MET:

In today's victory, Siebert notched her 100th career point with a goal at the 7:00 mark of the first quarter and senior defender Madison Scott (Cumberland, Maine) registered her 100th career caused turnover with 12:46 left in the second stanza.

In the Monks' victory over Manhattanville on Thursday, Battaglia reached the 100-goal mark for her career.

  • Scott contributed with a goal, four ground balls, and three caused turnovers

LEADERS – DEAN:

  • Medeiros netted a goal with seven ground balls, six draw controls, and three caused turnovers
  • Ramsey added a goal on her only shot of the game
  • Junior Natalie Peterson (Hudson, Mass.) notched three ground balls, three draw controls, and a pair of caused turnovers

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

Saint Joseph's is now 3-0 all-time versus Dean College.
