NEW LONDON, NH — The Saint Joseph's College (9-4, 2-1) women's basketball team earned a 62-49 victory over the Colby-Sawyer Chargers (6-8, 0-3) on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Saint Joseph's College started scoring the first five points of the game, fueled by a three-pointer from Logan Brown (Brunswick, ME) and a layup from Grace Ramsdell (Wells, ME). Colby-Sawyer got on the board at the 6:29 mark with a three-pointer After much back and forth the Monks closed the first quarter with a 15-11 lead.
The Monks opened the second quarter with a layup from Elisabeth Stapelfeld (Brookline, NH) and Madison Lebel (Hermon, ME) to extend their lead. The Monks further extended their lead to nine to close out the quarter.
The Monks maintained their lead in the third quarter, extending it to 14 on a three pointer from Brylee Bishop (Gorham, ME) at the 4:32 mark.
In the final quarter, Saint Joseph's maintained their lead outscoring Colby-Sawyer 17-15 to secure the victory.
LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:
- Junior Grace Ramsdell led the Monks with 16 points, three assists, and seven rebounds
- Elisabeth Stapelfeld scored 10 points, three rebounds, one assist, and three steals
- Graduate Student Angelica Hurley (Groveland, MA) recorded nine points, seven rebounds, one steal, and six assists. With Hurley's points achieved during the game she notched her 200th career three-pointer and 1300th career point. Additionally, the Hurley's seven rebounds upped her total tally to 800.
- Junior Logan Brown notched three points, two assists, three rebounds, and a steal
- Brylee Bishop (Gorham, ME) added six points, seven rebounds, two steals, and three assists
LEADERS – Colby-Sawyer:
- Catherine Chick led the Chargers with 12 points, 6 rebounds, and four assists
- Marissa Holt added 11 points, three assists, three rebounds, and three steals
- Makenna Grillone contributed seven, one rebound, and one steal
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
Today's contest marks the 10th match-up between the Chargers and the Monks. With the victory, the Monks improved to 10-0.
