The 2026 GNAC Tournament kicks off with quarterfinal action on February 24th and continues with the semifinal and championship rounds on February 26th and 28th, respectively. The tournament champion receives an automatic berth into the NCAA DIII Tournament, which begins on March 6th.
Saint Joseph's College delivered another strong campaign in 2024–25, finishing 21–7 overall and 12–2 in GNAC play under 32-year Head Coach Mike McDevitt '83, earning the #2 seed in the conference tournament. After a somewhat sluggish start to the season, Saint Joseph's won eight of its final nine GNAC games to close the regular season, then advanced to the GNAC Championship for the ninth straight year with postseason victories over Emmanuel and Albertus Magnus. The title game rematch with the University of Saint Joseph came down to shooting struggles, as the Monks hit just one three-pointer and fell 66–59 on March 1.
The 2025 GNAC Championship ultimately became Mike McDevitt's final game, as he announced his retirement from coaching several weeks later. He stepped away after 33 seasons on the sidelines—32 at Saint Joseph's and one at USM—with a remarkable 667-231 (.743) career record, 22 seasons of 20-plus wins, and no losing campaigns. McDevitt guided the Monks to 19 conference titles and 14 national tournament appearances and earned 15 conference or regional Coach of the Year honors during his distinguished career.
GAMES TO WATCH:
Nov. 30 at University of Southern Maine: The Monks and Huskies renew their rivalry in the annual Costello Cup, played in honor of the late Dr. Richard "Doc" Costello, former USM Athletic Director and long-time coach for both basketball programs. Saint Joseph's has dominated the series in recent years, winning nine straight, including last winter's 68–38 decision.
Jan. 20 vs. Emmanuel College: Two perennial GNAC powers meet for their lone regular-season matchup on Mike McDevitt Court, with the programs combining for nine of the last 11 conference titles. For more than a decade this game showcased coaching legends Mike McDevitt and Emmanuel's Andy Yosinoff, the all-time wins leader in NCAA DIII women's basketball (929). First-year head coach Chris Woodside inherits the rivalry, making this an early benchmark game for his tenure.
Feb. 21 vs. University of Saint Joseph: This matchup marks a rematch of the last two GNAC Championship games, with the Monks winning in 2024 and the Blue Jays responding last season with a 66–59 victory in Standish for their first crown since 1998. With both teams retooled, the regular-season finale carries weight as each program looks to roll into postseason play with momentum.
