Pomerleau Inducted into Maine Field Hockey Hall of Fame

STANDISH, Maine – Former Saint Joseph's College standout Libby (Pomerleau) Lowell '20 was enshrined in the Maine Field Hockey Hall of Fame during a ceremony at the Augusta Civic Center on Sunday, December 7th.

One of the most decorated players in program history, Pomerleau amassed 31 individual accolades during her Saint Joseph's career. She was the 2016 GNAC Rookie of the Year, a four-time First Team All-GNAC selection (2016–19), and a two-time GNAC Offensive Player of the Year. A fixture in the conference's weekly awards, she collected seven GNAC Rookie/Player of the Week honors in addition to numerous Honor Roll mentions.

On the regional and national stage, she earned two NFHCA All-New England First Team nods and was twice named a Synapse Sports Third Team All-American, culminating in her selection as one of just 60 players nationwide to compete in the 2019 NFHCA Division III Senior All-Star Game in Manheim, Pennsylvania.

A proven big-game performer, Pomerleau helped lead the Monks to four straight GNAC championships and NCAA Tournament appearances, highlighted by her memorable 2016 NCAA game-winning goal at No. 10 Montclair State, and was a three-time GNAC Tournament MVP. She remains the program's all-time leader in goals (65), points (156), and game-winning goals (22) and was honored as the 2020 SJC Female Student-Athlete of the Year.

Before arriving on the SJC campus, Pomerleau starred for Lori Smith at Thornton Academy, where she played four years of varsity field hockey. She helped the Trojans capture a Western Maine championship as a senior, earned SMAA First Team and Maine All-State honors, and graduated as the program's all-time leader in goals (23) and assists (12). She also collected SMAA All-Rookie accolades as a freshman, garnered Maine All-State recognition as a junior, and appeared on the honor roll all four years.

"Libby was the definition of a big-game player," says former SJC Head Coach Rupert Lewis. "She led us to four straight GNAC championships and NCAA appearances and delivered iconic moments like her game-winner against Montclair State. She left an indelible mark on our program and our record books, and her legacy as one of the greatest players in Monks field hockey history is cemented forever."

A two-sport standout at St. Joe's, Pomerleau was also a four-year starting second baseman on the SJC softball team. She claimed a pair of All-Conference honors and finished her career with a .378 (144-381) batting average, 93 runs, 12 doubles, seven triples, four home runs, 43 RBI, and 27 stolen bases (in 28 attempts) over 119 games.

Joining Pomerleau in the 2025 MFHA Hall of Fame class is Sharon Coulton, a mainstay of the Winthrop High School Ramblers varsity field hockey program for over 30 years. During her leadership, Coulton's teams compiled a record of 335 wins, 158 losses, and 37 ties. Her squads achieved remarkable success, securing multiple Mountain Valley Conference titles, winning six regional championships, and reaching the pinnacle of the sport with four coveted state championships. Her legacy of excellence, commitment, and the countless lives she inspired both on and off the field is deeply felt across Maine field hockey.
