WATERVILLE, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College men's track and field team opened the 2025-26 indoor season with a fourth-place finish at the Colby College Elm City Classic on Saturday, scoring 79 points behind an event win in the long jump, multiple podium finishes across the jumps and middle distance events, and two New England Division III qualifying marks.
"This was a great start to a long season. Our veterans led the way, and the freshmen were ready. This is going to be a fun group to watch as they put in the work and continue to develop over the next few months," said Head Coach Mike Burleson.
Competing at Colby's state-of-the-art indoor facility, the Monks turned in standout performances across sprints, distance events, relays, jumps, throws, hurdles, and the heptathlon. With Freshman Stephen Pierre and
Isaac Keresey setting two new school records. Keresey set a new heptathlon record while Pierre jumped to a new long jump program record mark.
SPRINTS AND RELAYS
Freshman Eli Benjamin (Rochester, N.H.) scored in his collegiate debut in the 60 meters, placing sixth in 7.64, with first-year sprinter
Nico Vesprini (Milan, Italy) close behind in ninth at 7.84.
In the 600 meters, junior
Jacob Schmader (Limington, Maine) raced to third place in 1:24.80, hitting the New England Division III provisional qualifying standard. Senior
Noah Batoosingh (Scarborough, Maine) added a ninth-place finish (1:31.04), while sophomore
Aidan Mills (Ontario Center, N.Y.) clocked 1:32.33 for 11th. Junior
Emilson Zoccolo (Lewiston, Maine) finished in 1:35.66, with classmates
Brayden Grant (Rochester, N.H.) and
Harrison Fields (Gray, Maine) running 1:37.80 and 1:38.55, respectively. Senior
Kyle Benson (Biddeford, Maine) crossed in 1:43.87, and senior EJ Sungubele wrapped up the Monks' deep group with a 1:47.98 showing.
The 4x400-meter relay of Fields, Zoccolo, Vesprini, and senior Batoosingh closed the meet with a podium finish, placing third in 3:49.74.
DISTANCE AND MIDDLE DISTANCE
In the 3000 meters, senior
Alexey Seredin (Peaks Island, Maine) led the way with a 10th-place finish in 9:45.93, while freshman
Michael Clarke (Naples, Maine) crossed 12th in 10:11.44, giving the Monks two top-12 finishers in the lone distance event of the day.
JUMPS
Freshman Stephen Pierre delivered one of the performances of the meet, winning the long jump with a mark of 6.74m (22' 1.5"), a New England Division III qualifying performance and new program record.
Pierre also excelled in the high jump, clearing 1.83m (6' 0") to place third. Benjamin highlighted the event for the Monks with a second-place finish, clearing 1.88m (6' 2") for a provisional qualifying mark for NE DIII's, while freshman
Martinho Codo (Lewiston, Maine) tied his way into fifth with 1.73m (5' 8"). First-year jumper
Patrick Murphy (Wakefield, Mass.) opened his collegiate career by clearing 1.33m (4' 4.25") for seventh.
In the triple jump, senior
Carl Peters (Northwood, N.H.) landed on the podium with a third-place mark of 11.41m (37' 5.25").
In the long jump, Peters added a fifth-place finish at 5.47m (17' 11.5"), while junior
Devonte Prom (Portland, Maine) placed fourth with a mark of 5.51m (18' 1").
THROWS
Sophomore Anthony Vasquez (Westbrook, Maine) led the Monks in the shot put, placing fourth with a throw of 10.64m (34' 11"). Senior
Alexander Greslick (Windham, Maine) added a sixth-place finish (9.98m / 32' 9"), while freshman
Brandt Bishop (Marblehead, Mass.) (8.47m) and junior
Gabryel Balch (Strafford, N.H.) (7.74m) gained early-season experience in the ring.
In the weight throw, freshman
Daven Duquette (Berlin, N.H.) opened his career with a fifth-place finish at 10.34m (33' 11.25"). Classmate
Cameron Gonyer (Berlin, N.H.) and Vasquez each registered matching marks of 9.64m (31' 7.5"), while Greslick (8.49m), Balch (7.98m), and Bishop (7.22m) rounded out a busy day for the Monks' throwing squad.
HURDLES
The Monks posted a strong duo in the 60-meter hurdles, with Read placing fifth in 9.01 and junior
Tudum Monday (Lewiston, Maine) finishing sixth in 9.22, giving Saint Joseph's a solid scoring presence in the event.
HEPTATHLON
In the heptathlon, freshman
Isaac Keresey (Pittsfield, Maine) compiled 3,483 points to place eighth and set a new program record. While sophomore
Dalton Feeney (Medway, Mass.) finished 11th with 3,402 points.
