Monks Hand AMCATS Loss in Conference Clash

STANDISH, ME. — The Saint Joseph's College (14-5, 7-1) women's basketball team secured the win over the Anna Maria AMCATS (10-10, 5-4) 74-64 in a conference contest on Saturday afternoon at home.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks and AMCATS first quarter consisted of much back and forth play. SJC pulled away from the AMCATS with an eight point lead at the 6:07 mark but the the AMCATS continued to claw their way back. The AMCATS went on an 11 point uncontested scoring run to take an 18-16 lead into the second.

Starting the second quarter with a deficiet, the Monks wasted no time and went on a seven point run of their own to take the 23-18 lead at 9:14. The Monks maintained their lead, outscoring the AMCATS 16-11 in the second quarter to take a 32-29 lead into the second half. 

The Monks continued to add to their lead in the third quarter, shooting 64.29% from inside the arc compared to the AMCATS 41.67%. During the third quarter, the Monks outscored the AMCATS 26-15. The Monks were able to increase their lead to 58-44 by the end of the third.

Saint Joseph's secured the victory with a 74-64 final score after leading by as many as 20 points in the fourth.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Junior Grace Ramsdell (Wells, ME) led the Monks in points tallying 18, with four rebounds, four assists, and a steal
  • Elisabeth Stapelfeld (Brookline, NH) notched 12 points, two rebounds, two assists and a steal
  • Graduate Student Angelica Hurley (Groveland, MA) recorded 11 points, eight rebounds, and nine assists
  • Madison Lebel added nine points and a game high of 11 rebounds
  • Junior Logan Brown (Brunswick, ME) and Maddie Russell (Oakfield, ME), added seven points for the Monks

LEADERS – ANNA MARIA:

  • Marinique Reddin led the AMCATS with a game high of 20 points, two rebounds, five assists, and three steals
  • Arianna Gonzalez added 14 points, one rebound, and five steals
  • Tiffany Salazar contributed 12 points
HISTORY:
The Monks improved to 17-0 against the AMCATS with their win today.
