Saint Joseph's Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader Against Wisconsin-Superior

WINTER HAVEN, FL-Saint Joseph's (4-0) swept Wisconsin-Superior (4-6 ) Monday afternoon on day two of their spring trip to Florida.

Game 1: Saint Joseph's 10, Wisconsin-Superior 6

The Saint Joseph's Monks opened Monday's doubleheader at Chain Lakes with a 10-6 victory over Wisconsin-Superior, fueled by an explosive offensive performance.

Saint Joseph's set the tone early, with Jared Wilhelm (Tolland, CT) launching a leadoff home run in the first inning. The Monks continued to showcase their power at the plate, as Nic Frink (Scarborough, ME) and Dawson Gundlah (York, ME) also homered. Gundlah turned in a standout performance, going a perfect 3-for-3 with a double, a home run, and three runs scored.

After jumping out to a 2-0 lead, the Monks saw Wisconsin-Superior respond with two runs in the bottom of the first, capitalizing on an error by Jake Carlisle (Portsmouth, NH). However, Saint Joseph's steadily pulled away, scoring in each of the first six innings to build a comfortable lead.

William Dionne (Somerset, MA) earned the win, allowing five runs (three earned) over 3.2 innings, while Hugh Barrett (Durham, CT) and Jack Dyer (Medford, MA) combined for 3.1 innings of strong relief. Dyer closed the game with a perfect seventh inning, striking out two.

Wisconsin-Superior's offense was led by Sybrant (2-for-4, RBI) and Howell, who homered in the sixth. Pfeifer took the loss, allowing 10 runs (nine earned) on 11 hits over seven innings.

Game 2: Saint Joseph's 8, Wisconsin-Superior 5

The Monks (3-0) completed the sweep with an 8-5 victory in the nightcap, powered by a six-run third inning that proved to be the difference.

After two scoreless frames, Saint Joseph's erupted in the third, sparked by a leadoff single and stolen base from Nick Brindle (Pittsfield, MA). The Monks capitalized on timely hitting throughout the lineup, as Nic Frink, Dylan Brander (Merrimack, NH), Michael Wearne (Ellington, CT), Michael Richards (Melrose, MA), and Luke Doughty (York, ME) all delivered RBI singles during the decisive rally.

Wisconsin-Superior chipped away at the deficit, scoring runs in four consecutive innings, including an RBI double from Howell in the fourth, a run-scoring single in the fifth, and an RBI triple in the sixth. They added another in the seventh but could not complete the comeback.

Logan Dee (Laconia, NH) earned the win, striking out five while allowing four runs over 5.1 innings. Corlett took the loss for Wisconsin-Superior, surrendering three runs in 2.1 innings.

Nic Frink once again paced the Monks' offense, going 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, including a crucial two-run double in the sixth that provided key insurance runs. Wisconsin-Superior was led by Howell (2-for-4, RBI) and Oxborough (1-for-2, triple, two RBIs, two walks).
